It is with the deepest gratitude towards our generous community and the hundreds of runners who turned out for the 5th Annual Bobcat Bolt that we proudly announce the event’s donation of $10,000 to the 2014 Josh and Nate Hardy Memorial Fund. As with previous years, the donation is made in memory of Josh and Nate Hardy (scroll down to read more about the awards).
Robyn and Andrew Gault, owners of Gault Builders (founding sponsors) delivered the donation to Stephen and Donna Hardy in front of Oyster River High School, where both Josh and Nate attended. Present this year for the donation was former Navy Seal Adam LaReau, friend and teammate to Nate.“To see the Community come together to not only remember Josh and Nate but to simply enjoy the annual gathering of so many friends and family warms our hearts,” said Donna Hardy of the donation and the Bolt. “I think of how much Josh and Nate loved the OR community, how much support we have all received from the community, and how blessed we feel to live here,” added her husband, Stephen Hardy.
Nearly 80 Children participated in the Kids Fun Run & over 400 Runners crossed the finish line in the 5K & 10K Events. Nearly two dozen sponsors donated generously to the event–without their help the Bobcat Bolt would not be possible. To every sponsor who played a part last May, we thank you. [See our full list from last year here]. We also thank everyone who participated in the 5K/10K as well as the Kids Fun Run and we look forward to seeing you all again in June as we head into year 6!!!
About the awards:
Josh Hardy Art Award
Josh Hardy died of a brain tumor in 1993, his senior year of high school. The Josh Hardy Art Award is given to a graduating senior who has found the ORHS Art Program to be a special place for growth and development.
Nate Hardy Athletic Award
Nate Hardy, the youngest of three, died in 2008 while assaulting an al Qaeda suicide bomber compound as a member of SEAL Team 6. That year, Don Maynard (ORHS Athletic Director) and the ORHS coaches established an award for a male and female varsity athlete who “best exemplifies what Nate stood for on and off the playing field: physical and mental toughness, leadership, and determination.”
